Ranked Mode is here, and the community is already split

Valve launched competitive matchmaking on July 30th. A few days in, queues are long, smurfs are making noise, and part of the player base is already asking for changes.

Valve itself warned the rollout would be rocky — and it is. Ranked access requires 60 Standard Mode wins plus three heroes unlocked at 15 wins each. The result: the eligible player pool stays thin, and queue times show it, especially outside European peak hours.

The sharpest debate is about matchmaking itself. A widely shared Reddit thread — over 1,400 upvotes — mocks the feeling of a win rate locked around 50%. Talk of a "forced win rate" is nothing new in MOBAs, but it has gained fresh momentum since the mode opened.

Second sore point: smurfs. Several players describe games where an obviously underranked account farms kills without playing objectives. The topic feeds a broader worry about toxicity, with some fearing Deadlock could follow Counter-Strike 2's path here.

Worth noting: the access requirements cut both ways. They guarantee a minimum of hero experience, but they mechanically slow the mode's ramp-up. Valve said it would take a week or two to stabilize. The first real test will be the season finale, set for October 7th.
