Deadlock’s major content update ships early next week: “not Monday”, Valve says

Yoshi announced it on the official Discord: the first content update in eight months ships early next week, and not on Monday. Valve keeps its "late September" promise. And build 6701, shipped on Friday, adds three servers in Europe.

This time, Valve says so itself. On the game's official Discord, Yoshi — the team's voice with players — posted a two-line message: "Heads up we are planning on releasing the major content update early next week." When a player asked whether that meant Monday, he answered in one word: "no".

Early in the week, but not Monday: the window narrows to Tuesday, September 29 or Wednesday, September 30.

Valve keeps its date

On August 29, the same Yoshi had dampened hopes of a quick release: "The best estimate we can make right now is that it will be late September. If we're able to release it sooner, we certainly will, but that is unlikely." A month later, the announcement lands right inside the window he gave.

It is not a one-off. On July 22, Yoshi said the matchmaking overhaul was "on track to go out next week": it shipped on Thursday, July 30. He then described three priorities: matchmaking, an item-focused update and a large content update. This is the last of the three. For a studio that almost never gives dates, two announcements kept in a row mark a change of tone.

Eight months without a content update

The word matters: Yoshi says content update. The last one dates back to January 22, with Old Gods, New Blood, followed by six hero reveals through February 12. Valve has shipped a lot since, including the largest patch in our database, 879 changes on March 6, but none of those updates carried that name: their titles said Gameplay, Minor, Matchmaking.

Since October 2024, when our database begins, Valve had never let more than five months pass between two named major updates: that was the gap between Six New Heroes, in August 2025, and Old Gods, New Blood. This time it will have taken eight.

The named major updates since October 2024 and the day each one shipped, Bellevue time. Only two out of five came out on a Thursday.

Why not a Thursday

We have shown it: Valve ships its patches on Thursdays. But the big releases keep their own calendar. The map rework landed on a Tuesday, February 25, 2025; Six New Heroes on a Monday, August 18, 2025; the Winter Visual Update on a Tuesday. Of the five named major updates since October 2024, only two came out on a Thursday: the shop rework and Old Gods, New Blood. Routine patches follow the weekly rhythm; big releases are prepared for a date, and announced.

Three more European servers

Build 6701, shipped on Friday, September 25 without patch notes, changes almost nothing in the game. Except one thing: the server list. Three regions appear in it, Frankfurt, Stockholm and London, under the name of DataPacket, a dedicated server host. These are cities where Valve already has servers: the point is not to reach new players, but to add capacity. The three regions only take matchmaking; private lobbies are disabled on them.

It is the first change to the server list since March 31. And the file was clearly filled in quickly: the new "Frankfurt" entry copies, digit for digit, the coordinates of the São Paulo server. Nothing serious, but the sign of a last-minute addition. You add capacity when you expect a crowd.

What about Season 1?

Build 6701 does not touch the file that sets the ranked calendar. Beta Season 1 still ends on Thursday, October 8 at 21:00 UTC. The content update will therefore land about nine days before the close, right in the season's final stretch. Nothing suggests for now that it moves that date; we will check the files as soon as it ships.

What the update will contain

Valve has not said, and we will not guess. Names of upcoming heroes have been circulating for months; we have listed them without being able to confirm a single one. We will stick to what Valve publishes.

What we cannot claim

"Planning on" is not "will". Valve has already pushed this update back once to test it further, and a Discord message commits to nothing more than an intention. The link between the new servers and the update is our reading: Valve has not made it. As for the exact day, Yoshi's "no" rules out Monday without pointing to Tuesday over Wednesday.

On release day, the patch will be classified here within the hour, buff by buff and nerf by nerf, then its impact measured at two, seven and fourteen days, as with every patch.

Methodology. Yoshi's messages recorded on September 25, 2026 on Deadlock's official Discord. August 29 estimate quoted from PCGamesN; July 22 matchmaking announcement as reported by Talkesport. Build 6701: GameTracking-Deadlock commit of September 25 at 18:28 UTC (file scripts/regions.txt, three regions added as numbers 54 to 56); the file's history checked in the same repository. Dates and weekdays of previous updates taken from our patch database, in Bellevue time, where Valve is based. Season end: ranked_seasons.vdata, whose checksum is unchanged in build 6701.
